  • About Darren

    Darren, a bilingual Theatre Practitioner, is a graduate of the University of Essex. He was also part of the pioneer batch of Creative Edge, a division of I Theatre, which produced People and Under the Dragon Moon as their graduating performances. He was last seen in Straight Acting by Wild Rice which also clinched him a nomination for the Best Actor award in the Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards 2022.


    Some other notable works include Art Studio by Nine Years Theatre, Citizen Dog by The Finger Players, and The Rat Trap by Gateway Arts. Aside from working as an actor in both theatre and film, in recent years, he also started doing more teaching and creative work including playmaking and directing. Darren was previously Assistant Director to Oliver Chong for Journey to Nowhere produced by NAFA, and he was also engaged in the NAC's Silver Arts Residency program as a Director and Creator. Darren was part of The Practice Lab from 2014 to 2016. He was an apprentice under The Finger Players and a member of Emergency Shelter, the artist training and research programme of Emergency Stairs.


    Art Studio was awarded Best Ensemble Award in the Straits Times Life Theatre Awards 2018.


    As a screen actor, he was given opportunities to play a multitude of different characters across TV, films, and commercials, allowing him to showcase his abilities and versatility as an actor. Some of his leading roles include Leedon Ang in an episode of Avenue 14 as the Orang Minyak by Monochromatic, and Tan Chin Shiong in Still Standing by Kristen Tan and Tan Wei Ting which earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the National Youth Film Awards 2020.


    As an acting coach, Darren is a MOE-approved coach and he has experience teaching speech and drama classes in schools ranging from Primary to Junior College level. He is also able to provide private coaching to all levels of experience. He's currently teaching Fundamentals for Acting at HCAC, and Acting 101 at Lasalle College of the Arts. For the recent SYF 2021, as an assistant drama coach at Saint Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School, he helped clinch another Certificate of Distinction for the school.
